Development Journeys
Development Journeys are a process for taking an individual, team, organisation or industry onwards from a point of dissonance where there is uncertainty, instability and a sense of "something not being right".
This often happens following a gradual or sudden change in the external environment whether it be redundancy or illness for an individual, poor financial performance for an organisation or new damaging legislation for industry. The pressures currently placed on public services such as the NHS and education are a classic case in point.
Once the realisation has set in and the initial shock has worn off, the reaction is often "there must be a better way of dealing with this". Whilst this is undoubtedly true, finding a way forward is extremely difficult and many fail in trying, only to go back to old and failing strategies and techniques.
