Annette Brooks-Rooney and Jan Corpe of Energise were both instrumental in establishing the £1 million team based working initiative, Annette as the instigator of the initiative and founder member of the Steering Committee and Jan Corpe as the Project Manager throughout 1997 to 2000. The Department of Trade & Industry, Scottish Enterprise, the Health & Safety Executive and OPITO the National Training Organisation funded this initiative for Oil & Gas Extraction as well as attracting substantial funding from oil and gas industry organisations.
The initiative raised awareness of team based working practices with 120 organisations across the oil and gas industry and worked with 40 of them to assess their current approaches and identify improvements to team work. A Toolkit and funded training was provided to further help companies implement the necessary changes. All the outcomes from this initiative, including case studies and improvements to the original Toolkit are contained on the freely available smarteams.co.uk website.
